RAF Typhoon FGR4s have conducted a mission with France's air force in a combined operation on an hidden munitions depot in Syria employed by the Islamic State group (IS), as stated by the UK Ministry of Defence.
The site, identified by intelligence, was assessed as containing munitions and bombs, the statement said, and was situated in hills just north of Palmyra in the heart of Syria.
"Our fighter planes employed precision-guided Paveway IV munitions to strike a number of access tunnels leading to the depot... preliminary assessments are that the strike was effective," officials stated.
There was no evidence of any harm to civilians in the attack on Saturday evening and every plane involved returned to base without incident, the ministry further stated.
The British jets were backed up by a Voyager tanker plane.
Daesh - also known as ISIS - enforced militant control over large swathes of Iraq and Syria until 2019.
"This operation demonstrates British leadership, and resolve to operate in unison with our partners, to eradicate any re-emergence of Daesh and their violent and radical beliefs in the region," the British Defence Secretary John Healey remarked.
British military aircraft have carried out patrols over Syria to "deter any efforts to regroup" of the group subsequent to its military defeat at the Baghuz confrontation in the year 2019, the ministry said.
"I extend gratitude to every member of British forces who took part in this operation for their professionalism and their valour," he commented. "They were part of a great many UK service members stationed over Christmas and New Year. This action, to remove militants who threaten our way of life, shows how our armed forces are prepared to act, throughout the year, ensuring Britain's security domestically and influential overseas."
Last December, the American forces carried out what it described as a "major assault" targeting Daesh sites in Syria, subsequent to an ambush claimed the lives of two US troops and a local interpreter in the Palmyra area.
The UN estimates Daesh still has roughly 5-7 thousand fighters in Syria and Iraq.
